So this week's Tuesdays with Dorie was supposed to be a Chocolate Cream Tart as chosen by Kim of Scrumptious Photography. But, as I read the P&Q section, Katya of Second Dinner suggested that the pastry cream used in the pie made excellent ice cream. And, as my ice cream maker was feeling a bit left out lately, I decided it was time to let it shine! It didn't hurt that I was saving myself the calories from the pie crust and whipped cream topping either...
Well, in any case, Katya was right! This makes the most fantastic chocolate ice cream I've ever tasted. A little caramel drizzled in at the last minutes of churning also adds a little "je ne sais quoi"... Really makes this a special treat! So if you're in the mood for something easy, chocolaty, creamy and cold, go for the ice cream. If you're looking for something a little more dressed up and classy, check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers for Chocolate Cream Tarts galore. Have fun today!

Well, how clever are you this week with this version? Very nice. I can see the guys here loving this idea! I will have to do this very soon. Beautiful linens and styling.
AWESOME!!! I WISH I made this as ice cream... I had a horrible time with this one! But I do believe that, if done right, it would have been amazing! LOVE the ice cream idea!

see, now that's a great idea. kudos to katya for suggesting it, and kudos to you for following through! i don't need any tart, but that little bit o' caramel wouldn't hurt. :)
Cool idea! The ice cream looks great.
Ice cream? Really? Did you save some for us?
YYYYYUUUUMMMMMMMM
What a great idea Ahhhhhhhhhh!AWESOME!!!
Oh, that just looks absolutely perfect! And I bet it stayed firmer for longer :) (not that it would melt in your climate!)
This looks so decadent and yummy!
Mmmmm! I love homemade ice cream.
I love your interpretation. Looks luscious.
Mmm, wonderful idea. I like the idea of adding caramel. I started to make four mini tarts with this recipe. I made one small tart, but then my girls preferred to eat the rest of the pastry cream straight out of bowls. So I made a second batch of the pastry cream, churned it into ice cream, and crumbled my other three tart shells in at the end. It was fantastic!
